The government had come out last spring to say this needed to be fixed to uphold a certain rental standard.

The province’s Tourism Minister, Dominique Vien, is expected to table a bill that obliges people who want to rent rooms, apartments or houses to pay taxes and follow the same guidelines as the hotel industry.

This, according to the minister, is because people who rent out their homes are acting in the same way as a hotel and should comply to industry regulations.

If the bill passes, Quebec will be the first province in Canada to legalize Airbnb style rentals.
