WATCH ABOVE: Tension was high in a Moncton neighbourhood Monday, as police searched for a man armed with a rifle. Global’s Brion Robinson reports.

MONCTON – Codiac RCMP are still searching for a man with a firearm who may do harm to himself in the Rosewood Trailer Park area of Moncton.

In a release, RCMP say they are concerned about the safety and well-being of 20-year-old Travis Squires of Moncton.

Police responded to a call at 5:30 a.m. on Shamrock Avenue regarding a man doing damage inside a house and who had assaulted another man.

RCMP said in a statement that the man fled the home and was seen by a witness going into a shed where a firearm is believed to have been stored.

He then headed into the nearby woods. Police verified that there was no firearm in the shed so the man may have it.

“Salisbury Road is now reopened to traffic and residents in that area are free to travel,” RCMP said in the release. “However, police continue to block access to Rosewood Trailer Park and residents there are asked to remain inside.”
